Almost 30,000 homes and businesses in Shrewsbury will get access to super-fast broadband over the next few weeks as BT rolls its coverage out across the town, the company said today.
BT has begun its roll-out of the faster broadband in the town, with engineers beginning to upgrade the network this week. It is the second area of the county to benefit.
The latest upgrade will take the number of homes in the county with access to the high-speed technology to more than 36,000.
In Shrewsbury BT will use a mixture of fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) and fibre to the premises technologies (FTTP).
Properties served by FTTC will get download speeds of up to 40Mbps, which will be doubled this spring, while those served by FTTP will received download speeds of up to 100Mbps, which will be boosted to up to 300Mbps later this year.

Whooo! about time!
I see this broadband news was dated 23 February. One month on I can report that on my town centre second floor computer, with the broadband box in the basement, I am getting 6.0mbps.
I’ve just tested and it’s now showing a download speed of 16.53 Mbps – is that good? I used Speedtest.net to check.
I STILL get 1Mb…
