Good neighbours support Omega Chatterbox

STCRAchequeOn Thursday 12th December 2012 Mr Eddie Clitheroe, a resident at Blackfriars Crescent, presented a cheque in the sum of £100 on behalf of STCRA. This sum of money was raised as a result of the annual garden party, which was held in the wildlife meadow which forms part of the Blackfriars development.

The cheque was gratefully received by local GP, Dr T L Griffin Chairperson of Shrewsbury based charity Omega the National Association for End of Life Care. The money will be used to help Omega deliver Chatterbox a new telephone befriending service launched in September 2012 aimed at supporting socially isolated people, including carers, former carers and the bereaved. The Service is managed by Chatterbox Co-ordinator Maggie Kristiansen who leads an enthusiastic team of voluntary befrienders.

Omega Development Director Tom Memery said he was: “delighted that the Charity had been nominated by Blackfriars’ residents at a time when so many worthwhile projects are in need of extra financial help. We work hard to encourage the whole community to get involved in sharing the caring. Most of us will care for someone at some stage. Many of us will need someone to care for us. He went on to thank Mr Clitheroe and members of the STCRA for their kindness and who clearly recognise that caring really is everyone’s business. Successful local businesses have also pledged their support for this important new initiative which will eventually cover the entire country.”

Telephone befriending can make a huge difference to people who find it difficult to get out and about or who are in danger of becoming socially isolated for other reasons. The Omega Chatterbox service enables the Charity to reach people wherever they are including those who are unable to attend events or take part in organised activities.
